Our History

1946
Mr Vince Maloney opened his first boutique in 1946 in partnership with a colleague. However, he was still determined to open a store in his own right with a view to becoming the leading tailor and retailer in Sydney.

1950
In 1950 the dream became a reality when Vince opened Vince Maloney & Co. in Marrickville. The boutique featured young men's fashion that was largely manufactured in Australia using European fabrics. Popular quality brands such as Anthony Squires, Heritage Shirts, Imperial Slacks and Peter Battye could be found among the smart collection on offer. Vince's eye for style was quickly making him a connoisseur of men's clothing; while his attention to detail was fast creating a reputation for bespoke suits.

1970
In 1970 Vince opened a second store in Burwood. Like its sister store in Marrickville, the Burwood store also featured popular Australian brands and offered bespoke tailoring.

1973
In July 1973, Vince opened a third store on the gallery level of Centrepoint Tower in the heart of the city of Sydney. He believed the city needed a men's store that offered an enviable range of classic quality clothing from both local and international suppliers. He introduced top European labels and trends at a time when there were few of these in Australia. The store became an overnight success. To capitalise on this success Vince closed both the Marrickville and Burwood stores and concentrated on the city boutique.

1974
In 1974 a trip to Italy, France, the United Kingdom, and Germany was undertaken to buy direct from Europe's finest fashion houses and establish exclusive relationships with suppliers.

This trip is still made today, twice a year, to ensure the store keeps abreast of global trends in high-end menswear.

1975
In 1975 Vince retired from the day-to-day activities of running the store and increasingly, his two young proteges, Arthur King and Peter Pascalis took on more responsibility. Peter learnt his craft and tailoring skills as a young lad straight out of school from Vince himself. Arthur is a master of old customer service.

1993
In 1993, the boutique was relocated to its present premises at 177 Elizabeth Street. Purpose-built in crown cut American cherry veneer paneling, the store features a bar and lounge area that allows clients to enjoy a beverage while viewing the latest fabrics and styles, and a state-of-the-art workroom that combines good old fashion tailoring skills with sophisticated equipment.

The Difference with Vince Maloney & Co.

Vince Maloney & Co. was founded on the principles of quality, craftsmanship and service excellence. More than half a century later these principles are still adhered to by the store's current owner Arthur King and his long-time colleague, Peter Pascalis.

Passionate about elegance and style in the modern, active world, Arthur and Peter are both a rarity. Arthur can measure you up and fit you out with an expertise that only experience provides. Peter is one of the few shopfront cutters whose expert cutting skills and attention to detail ensure your bespoke trousers, shirts and suits fit perfectly. To ensure the survival of these unique skills, Arthur and Peter are also busy passing on this knowledge to their young colleague, Sean Devine.

Clients return to Vince Maloney & Co. not only because of the quality range of great men's labels, but because they know the fit is what makes the quality clothing look as good as it feels.

Add to this, the relaxed, professional atmosphere in the store that makes it seem more like a club than a place to buy luxury clothes and you begin to understand what makes Vince Maloney & Co. so different.
